TMJ Dentist Nashville
Nashville TMJ dentist Dr. Kent E. White is dedicated to helping his patients take an emotional and physical journey of healing. They come to him in pain and dysfunction, and he helps them achieve a state of true health that isn’t just pain free: it’s free from restrictions, free from worry about their oral health, and free from the need for frequent treatment. A dentist who has worked in a medical as well as dental setting, he takes a broader view toward dentistry and sees the great potential of neuromuscular dentistry to heal.
From Student to Teacher and Master
For more than 20 years, Dr. White has pursued the highest levels of training and expertise in dentistry. He received his dental degree with honor from the University of Tennessee Health Center College of Dentistry. He followed this with an elective general practice residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine. This additional training in a medical setting helped Dr. White to see how tightly integrated the mouth and jaw is with the rest of the body. He learned to take a broader perspective on the role of a dentist in taking care of his patients.
Dr. White trained on dental implants with two of the world’s leading implant pioneers, Dr. Arun Garg and the late Dr. Carl Misch.
Dr. White also trained at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), eventually achieving the prestigious rank of LVI Fellow. He was also recognized for his talent and insight, so he was offered the position of Senior Clinical Instructor, the youngest dentist to hold that position at that time.
Partly through his work at LVI, Dr. White has campaigned to change the nature of dentistry so that it better serves its patients, ensuring their health as well as maintaining their teeth.

Expertise in Treating TMJ
Dr. White is a recognized expert in the treatment of TMJ. He takes a comprehensive view of the bite, and his practice reflects this. He measures the entire bite from the activity of the nerves to the force at the tooth. With advanced technology, he has integrated all of these measurements into a comprehensive picture. He understands the complex interaction of all the various parts of the bite, including the muscles, joints, tendons, teeth, airway and central nervous system. Combining the comprehensive data with his own understanding and insight, Dr. White is able to design effective, long-lasting TMJ treatments that ensure healthy function today, tomorrow, and for the future.
Unlike many TMJ dentist, Dr. White is a firm believer in biomimetic dentistry. One of the principles of biomimetic dentistry is that the natural tooth is the ideal of healthy function, and, whenever possible, he works to provide a TMJ solution that preserves your natural teeth rather than relying on porcelain and other restorative materials to alter your teeth.
The Bite’s Big Impact
Like other neuromuscular dentists, Dr. White understands that the impact of TMJ reaches far beyond the mouth. People experience a wide range of symptoms related to their TMJ, such as headaches (including migraines), neck pain, tinnitus, vertigo, and many others. He knows that many of his patients have been trying to get treatment for these conditions for years, and he loves being able to give them the relief they have long sought.
Dr. White also believes that the bite plays a much larger role in oral health than many dentists realize. He knows that it has a significant impact on tooth wear and decay, periodontal health, and the appearance and function of their teeth. By ensuring his patients have a healthy bite, he is improving their overall oral health.
Dr. White Out of the Office
Although dentistry is a great passion, Dr. White also has other interests and occupations. He plays competitive tennis. He has a large collection of guitars that he loves to play. He likes spending time on the beach, and enjoying time with his family, which includes his wife Gretchen, his son Landis, his daughter Kristie, and two four-legged babies: Georgie and Gidget. Gidget even helps around the office as a certified therapy dog in training.
