Even among the exclusive circle of neuromuscular dentists, Dr. Nehawandian has an impressive resume of education, experience, and talent. With nearly 30 years in practice and some of the most comprehensive education, the only thing that stands out more is Dr. Nehawandian’s ability to get good results for her patients.
An Impressive Education
After receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of the Pacific in 1989, Dr. Nehawandian was just beginning her extensive training in dentistry. Of course, her training includes an extensive education at the leading center for neuromuscular dentistry education, the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). With over 300 hours of continuing education at LVI, she earned the rank of LVI Fellow, an honor achieved by less than 1% of dentists in the US.
At LVI she learned the essential principles of neuromuscular dentistry, including how a common condition of the joint, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or sometimes TMD) can manifest with seemingly unrelated symptoms. These symptoms may include jaw pain, headache (including migraines), and tinnitus. She has learned how TMJ is related to obstructive sleep apnea, in which the airway collapses at night, and how treatments for either condition must be aware of how the two contribute to one another. Where most dentists focus on the teeth and gums, Dr. Nehawandian has learned of how these are related to the entire bite system, including the bones, joints, muscles, and nerves of the jaw.
But LVI represents only a part of her extensive education. Dr. Nehawandian has earned over 2600 hours of continuing education, which has also earned her the honor of Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, another honor that is only awarded to an elite pool of dentists representing less than 1% of the dentists in the US. The number of dentists who have earned both honors is exceedingly small.
Practical Experience and Quality Results
In her nearly 30 years of practice, Dr. Nehawandian has also learned the lessons that only experience can teach, and she uses the combination of education and experience to help her patients get quality dentistry that is attractive, comfortable, and functional.
Dr. Nehawandian has learned how to look at a smile as an aesthetic whole, one which has to harmonize with and support the attractiveness of the face.
Whether she is placing porcelain veneers to improve the appearance of teeth or dentures to replace missing teeth, Dr. Nehawandian utilizes her understanding of neuromuscular dentistry to ensure the results achieve a balanced bite that doesn’t put excessive force on any part of the mouth, making the restorations more comfortable and longer-lasting.
With the Denture Fountain of Youth ®, neuromuscular principles allow dentures to restore more than a smile: they can rejuvenate the entire facial appearance, taking years, even decades off your appearance.
